Training for teachers on School Safety Education in Bantul District
(supported by Japan Platform)

Since 2006 Java earthquake, a number of domestic and international organizations carried out relief activities in various fields. After the quick relief and early recovery phase, many organizations started to work on a school safety education project in order to disseminate the importance of school safety education and to protect the life of children in disaster prone areas.

SEEDS Asia, based on our survey, thinks that the gap between trainings for educational field staff on disaster management and practical teaching methods towards children implemented by teachers seems to be one of the causes for school safety education not to be spread.

To resolve the problem, three activities below has planned in order to disseminate the importance of school safety education through which teachers can protect vulnerable children from natural disasters.

1. Trainings for school teachers

2. Preparation of a teachers’ handbook on school safety education

3. Workshops for awareness raising towards school safety education
