Launching support activities and contribution for Kumamoto [Kumamoto/Japan]

On 14th and 16th April, 2016, big earthquakes whose seismic intensity by JMA was VII were occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture. We would like to express our sincere sympathy to the victims of the earthquake.
SEEDS Asia conducted damages/needs assessment in Kumamoto from 16th May to 21st May, and got the agreement with Department of Disaster Risk Management in Uki City and Social Welfare Council in the city to have support activities in the city where aid organizations hardly have their activities in spite of continuous aftershocks of seismic intensity more than IV. One month has passed since the earthquake occurred, and the environment that people suffered from surround changes every moment; Volunteers from the outside of the prefecture have been accepted, some evacuation centers were integrated, and schools reopened. From June, the volunteer center will be changed as the recovery support center in Uki Social Welfare Council, as various needs from affected people can be responded. Support for the management of the recovery support center by SEEDS Asia with know-how of community recovery and resources in Kesennuma will be conducted.
Temporary housing has been constructed from now. Long-term support will be needed in affected areas. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation to support activities of SEEDS Asia in Kumamoto.
