Participatory Urban Risk Management:
Action Workshop on Education for Sustainable Development
Jointly organized by Kyoto University, UNEP International Environmental Technical Centre and SEEDS Asia, the workshop "Participatory Urban Risk Management" aimed at developing action-oriented educational material and decision-making toolsets to be used locally by various stakeholders, especially in urban areas, to promote the importance of appropriate risk management. The workshop particularly focused on issues of urban risk management, need for community participation, and the socio-economic issues, emphasizing the importance of an environment friendly urban area that will lead to a safe and secure society.
The workshop saw 13 overseas participants from nine Asian countries (India, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Philippines) and nine Japanese participants, who got together in Kyoto to discuss and learn about participatory urban risk management.
