Project kick-off meeting at Lalmatia school [Bangladesh]

On April 19, SEEDS Asia organized a kick-off meeting with the Lalmatia Housing Society School and Collage, which is this year’s “model school” in our school-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) project in Dhaka.
With the COVID-19 lockdown still in place in Bangladesh, the meeting was organized online. A total of 21 participants from Lalmatia school, the local community, Fire Service and Civil Defence units, the Education Department, Dhaka North City Corporation, and the Model Academy joined the meeting. The discussion revolved around the project’s three pillars: 1. DRR education, 2. DRR infrastructure installation, and 3. City wide DRR awareness campaign, and how we could make the school and community more resilient through various hard and soft approaches.
It was very encouraging to hear the principal of the Lalmatia school express his enthusiasm for the project, and to have community DRR leaders and teachers from the Model Academy (who were engaged in past project activities) to share their experiences and be a part of the current activities as resource persons.
