Teaching the Teachers about DRR [Bangladesh]

Online training on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for 15 representatives, consisting of teachers and members of the school governing body, is underway at the Lalmatia Housing Society School and College in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
A total of five sessions have been organized so far, and a number of topics such as disasters in Bangladesh, disaster risks, disaster impact on the schools, concepts and actions of DRR, and role of the school disaster management committee were discussed. The sessions were organized online, and though this format of delivery was new to many of the participants, they actively involved in the proceedings and contributed to the discussion.
Training sessions primarily delivered online is relatively new, and can be a challenge for participants as they cannot see each other’s expressions and responses. So the sessions were planned to make them as interactive and enjoyable as possible by allocating time to talk about each other and exchange, for example, songs and poems. One of the participants later commented that he organized a family meeting immediately after the training sessions to talk about the disaster risk and actions to be taken.
