Response to Typhoon Odette (Rai) [Philippines]

SEEDS Asia, with the help of the Philippines Department of Education (DepEd) offices, has operated a small relief project since Typhoon Odette (internationally known as Rai) devastated Visayas Region of the Philippines in December 2021.

Many cities and municipalities have been left out of electricity and communication due to power outage and damaged infrastructure. To help DepEd officials who are in charge of damage assessment of affected schools which is crucial for future fund allocation, generator sets were donated to some of the DepEd offices in Cebu Province.

Some Japanese people who have been kind enough to support our relief project through donations greatly helped us reach those offices. Yet, challenges remain for those offices and schools when it comes to recovery and continued education, especially the typhoon took place when schools were getting ready for face-to-face classes after two years of closure due to COVID-19.

We shall seek to extend our help to the affected schools.
