Lecture on city/rural planning for disaster recovery [Nagnao/Japan]

On 22nd July, SEEDS Asia invited Dr. Michio Ubaura, Professor of Tohoku University, to give a talk about “Potential for Community Development in Non-urban Communities” as the 11th lecture in a series for disaster recovery and future community building.

25 people participated both online and face-to-face. Dr. Ubaura’s comprehensive lecture covered a broad range of issues relevant to urban/rural planning: macro perspectives of what urban planning used to be and now is, what are the purposes of “compact city development,” and steps towards community planning; and micro perspectives of useful tools and examples towards the realization of community plans.

Resident-centered community development requires close coordination with local governments, and Dr. Ubaura’s lecture provided the participants with concrete topics for constructive discussion between community members and government agencies.

We sincerely thank Dr. Ubaura and the participants for an interesting lecture, and look forward to continued future collaboration.
