Learn today, prepare for tomorrow: Philippines School DRR Talk [Japan]

On 24th March, the first session on “Philippines Disaster Risk Reduction Talk” entitled “Teacher, why do you go to the Philippines?” was held online (in Japanese).

In this event, the joint project implemented by SEEDS Asia and Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education under the JICA Grassroots Technical Cooperation scheme entitled “Project on the Strengthening and Promoting School-based Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Visayas” was discussed. Guest speakers were Mr. Takeshi Hatanaka, Education Supervisor at Education Planning Division, Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education, and Ms. Haruka Yamasaki, a teacher at Fukura Elementary School. The guests had visited the Philippines last January, and they shared their experiences of their visit.

In the Q&A / open discussion, a wide range of topics were covered: how the guests found Filipino people and towns; charms of the Philippines; differences in school education in the Philippines and Japan; the importance of international cooperation for Hyogo Prefecture; and the challenges of passing down past disaster experiences.

We sincerely thank everyone who attended. The second session entitled “How is it useful?” will be held on 23rd June (in Japanese only)!
