Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan): Second seminar on the Philippines’ school-based DRR [HQ/Philippines]

On 22nd of June, the second session of open seminars on the Philippines’ School-based Disaster Risk Reduction was organized with a specific topic of “Is what SEEDS Asia does being of use? – Assessing project outcomes from multiple perspectives -“. SEEDS Asia’s projects so far in the Philippines were evaluated and their outputs were the focus.

SEEDS Asia discussed the project outputs and challenges faced after Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013 and Typhoon Odette (Rai) in 2021, and how the most recent project with JICA called the “Project on the Strengthening and Promoting School-based Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Visayas” plans to assess its outputs. Dr. Kanami Namiki presented her recent research as part of the project concerning the human resource development of DRR personnel in the education sector in Central Visayas.

This seminar turned out to be fruitful thanks to questions about what school-based DRR should aim for, and how collaboration should be sought.

We sincerely thank the participants and presenters.
