Lecture at Nihon University [Headquarters]

On 3rd July, SEEDS Asia’s Executive Director Mitsuko Otsuyama was invited as a guest speaker at Dr. Saori Imoto’s course themed “Universal Design” for students at Department of Architecture, College of Engineering, Nihon University. There were approximately 120 participating students.

In addition to the initial topic “Projects and challenges in the field of international cooperation and emergency support,” “Autobiography of why Otsuyama chose the career in that field” was requested as the component of the lecture. Along with Otsuyama’s personal history, SEEDS Asia’s projects in Japan and overseas were discussed in order to focus on countries, communities, and individuals who are left behind in the disaster management cycle. The roles of NGOs to reach them were also addressed.

After the lecture, the participants shared their thoughts. It was evident from the submitted thoughts that all the participants paid attention to the lecture.

We hope this lecture will be utilized somewhere in the career paths that the students will take. We thank Dr Imoto and the participating students for the opportunity, especially because they are in the field of architecture where they design places where people gather together.
